P.T. Usha is one of India's best-known athletes, the queen of Indian track and field for two decades, the woman who was nicknamed 'Payyoli Express' because of her speed on the race-track. She was born in a poor family in the village Meladi-Payyoli near Calicut, Kerala. As a young girl Usha had to face ill health and poverty. Her involvement in sports fetched her to obtain a scholarship worth Rs. 250 per month from the Kerala government, which entitled her to study at a special sports school in Cannore. Under the guidance of her coach she came out with flying colors both at national and international arena. She is the first Indian women to enter 1984 Los Angeles Olympics final. But, she failed to win bronze medal in 400m hurdles by missing just 1/100th of second. She retired from sports and married on 1991. But, her amazing come back on 1998 and her achievement of winning gold medals in 100 and 200m in the Jakarta meet. Her performance at the age of 33years and as a mother has sown seeds on the heart of the people that "Anything is possible with practice and courage".  Leander Paes born in calcutta on 17th June,1973 in a sports family ,Fatjher Vece Paes and mother Jennifer Paes being sports personalites in hockey and basket ball respectively. Leander paes tennis career started in the Britannia Amritraj Tennis Academy in Madras in 1985 where he was coached by Dave O'Meara.With his dedication and inspiration he went on to win the Wimbledon Junior Championship.His career in the junior tennis showed that India has got an unbeatable tennis professional.But the Leander Paes could not meet the expection of the fans in the singles mens tournament.With fellow Indian Mahesh Bhupathi he could excel in doubles form of the game.But due to personal difference this partnership also shortlived.He never looked these failures and took a sweep in the games mixed doubles format.
