National Mission on Cultural Mapping
The National Mission on Cultural Mapping (NMCM) has been established by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, with the vision to identify and document India’s rich cultural heritage and creative potential. The initiative aims to revitalize and regenerate rural economies, contributing to the self-reliance of Village India.

Current Status:
NMCM is presently being implemented through its key component, Mera Gaon Meri Dharohar (MGMD). The state-wise details of the mission’s progress can be accessed through the open-access MGMD Web Portal at https://mgmd.gov.in/. -
Objectives:
- To identify and document India’s cultural heritage and creative potential to promote rural economic growth and self-reliance.
- To raise awareness about the role of cultural heritage in development and cultural identity.

Progress So Far:
- Andhra Pradesh: Data from 14,131 villages has been uploaded, with district-wise details available on the MGMD Web Portal.
- Nationwide: Data from 4.5 lakh villages has been compiled and uploaded.
Significance:
The data collected under the NMCM initiative will play a crucial role in preserving India’s cultural heritage and leveraging its creative potential to revitalize rural economies. By doing so, the mission aims to foster economic sustainability and cultural pride across rural India.
