P-7 Parachute System: What You Need to Know

 

Handing Over of AHSP: The Authority Holding Sealed Particulars (AHSP) of the P-7 Parachute System was handed over to the Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) by DRDO.

Event Date: The ceremony took place on November 11, 2024, at DRDO Bhawan in New Delhi.

Involvement of DRDO Leadership: Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, officiated the event.

Development and Fabrication:

  • The P-7 Parachute System was designed, developed, and qualified by the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE), Agra.
  • Gliders India Limited (OPF), Kanpur, fabricated the parachute system.

Key Features of P-7 Parachute System:

  • Can safely drop payloads up to 9.5 tons from IL-76 aircraft.
  • Operates at altitudes of up to 4 km.

Uses in the Indian Army: The system allows the rapid air-dropping of Light Field Guns and Jeeps at border and conflict areas.

Army Order: The Indian Army has ordered 146 units of the P-7 Heavy Drop Parachute System from GIL (OPF), Kanpur.

System Induction: The P-7 Parachute System has successfully completed General Staff Evaluation and is now inducted into service.
